Before you book a beginner’s course
Please read this page before you book. It tells you what to expect and what the booking form asks for.
About the course
A beginner’s course is 12 hours of coaching, in four 3-hour sessions. Depending on the course, the sessions are over one weekend, two weekends or four weekends. Qualified Archery GB coaches lead every session. All our coaches have a DBS check.
The price is £90 (£45 for under-18s). The price is for the whole course, not for each session. It includes:
- All coaching and equipment.
- The basics of archery, and how to shoot in a club, including rounds and scoring.
- Time to practise and to learn the correct technique, so that your shooting improves.
- The history and types of archery, in our club and in the wider archery community.
At the end of the course you get a certificate. You need it to join any Archery GB club, including ours. You must come to all four sessions to get the certificate.
A course over one weekend has two 6-hour days. These long days may not suit children under 13.
Bring a blanket or picnic blanket to sit on.
Who can come
You do not need any archery experience.
Children must be aged 8 or over. For younger children, contact us before you book.
After the course
You can join the club. Membership costs from £36 a year, plus Archery GB fees.
What the booking form asks
The booking form asks for the height and wingspan of each person who will shoot. We use them to prepare a bow and arrows of the correct size.
- Height: stand straight against a wall. Measure from the floor to the top of your head.
- Wingspan: stretch both arms out to the sides, like a letter T. Measure from the tip of one middle finger to the tip of the other.
The form also asks for the date of birth of each person who will shoot. We use it to supervise juniors correctly and to meet our safeguarding duties.
Before you come
- Under-18s must have a parent or guardian with them for the whole session.
- Tell us about any medical conditions or special needs before the session.
- Bring any medication you need, food and drink, and sunscreen on sunny days.
- Wear flat, closed shoes. Sandals and flip-flops are not allowed for safety reasons.
- The grass can be wet, so wear shoes that can get wet or muddy.
- Tie long hair back.
- Avoid very loose or baggy clothes and hoodies with drawstrings. They can catch in the bowstring.
- You may need to remove facial piercings.
Where to find us
Sessions are at our field on Derby Road, Milford DE56 0RA. How to find us and where to park. If you park on the field, you do so at your own risk.
We shoot at the field from late March to late October. We do not shoot there in winter.
