Answers to the questions people ask us most.
Do I need any experience or my own equipment?
No. We lend you all the equipment, and a coach leads every session.
How old do I need to be?
Children must be aged 8 or over. For younger children, contact us first. Under-18s must have a parent or guardian with them for the whole session.
What should I wear?
Flat, closed shoes. Sandals and flip-flops are not allowed for safety reasons. The grass can be wet, so wear shoes that can get wet or muddy. Avoid very loose or baggy clothes and hoodies with drawstrings, because they can catch the bowstring. Tie long hair back. We shoot outdoors, so dress for the weather and bring sunscreen on sunny days.
How early should I arrive?
Arrive 10 minutes before the start time, so the coach can start the safety briefing on time.
How much does it cost?
Taster sessions are £15. Beginner's courses are £90 (£45 for under-18s).
What's the difference between a taster and a course?
A taster is a single 1.5-hour session to try archery. A beginner's course is either four 3-hour sessions or two full days over one weekend, and finishes with the Archery GB certificate you need to join a club.
Do I have to become a member?
No. A taster has no commitment. To join the club, you first do a beginner's course to get your certificate.
Where are sessions held?
At our outdoor field in Milford, Derbyshire. The outdoor season runs from late March to late October. See where to find us for the address and a map.
Where do I park?
The main car park is on Derby Road (A6), near the Elephant & Peacock pub. It fills up fast, so arrive early. For taster sessions and beginner's courses, a coach also opens the back gate so you can park on the field. See the map and directions.
Are there toilets at the field?
Yes. There is a toilet at the field.
Do you shoot in winter?
Not at our field. Our season runs from late March to late October. We take the field down for winter, and many members shoot indoors at other clubs until the next season starts.
What happens if it rains?
Sessions go ahead in light rain, so bring a waterproof. Coaches cancel a session for heavy rain, strong wind or lightning. If we cancel, we contact you through Spond.
I have a medical condition or need medication. Can I still take part?
Yes. Please let us know in advance about any medical conditions or special needs, and bring any essential medication with you.
Can I book for a group or a party?
Yes. For a small group, you can book places on a taster session together. For a larger group, contact us to ask about a private session. Group size and price depend on when our coaches are free.
Do you sell gift vouchers?
Yes. Contact us to buy one. To use a voucher, choose the gift voucher option for your date on the taster booking form.
Can family and friends watch?
Yes. Family and friends can watch from behind the shooting line.
